Kellan Mill Lodge enjoys a superb position on the shore of Loch na Keal, with arguably one of the most beautiful views of the island, across the sea, toward the high mountains of central Mull. Positioned right by the coast, it is easy to access the pebbly shoreline of the sea loch – a picture-perfect location for your holiday, with a wealth of wildlife on your doorstep, too!
Entering Kellan Mill Lodge via the rear garden, there is a good-sized porch with plenty of space for coats and boots. Two doors lead off from the porch, one directly into the kitchen and the other to the hall, from which the rest of the ground floor accommodation can be accessed.
To the left, guests will find the living room, which has comfortable seating complemented by a nice selection of books and games, which make for a relaxing room that the entire family or group can enjoy. In the middle of the hall, the bathroom can be accessed, which has a good-sized bath with shower, basin and toilet. There is a fantastic view from here of the summit of Ben More!
At the other end of the hall is the dining room. The great views of the sea and mountains, along with an excellent multi-fuel stove, make this a lovely room to spend time in. This space is semi-open plan with the kitchen, creating a spacious area that feels central to the cottage.
The kitchen is very well equipped and furnished. A window overlooks the rear garden, and thanks to the way the space flows into the dining area, this feels like a relaxing space in which to cook and enjoy a meal.
The stairs lead to another hall on the first floor. A panoramic window here frames a stunning picture-postcard view that makes one want to stand and gaze whenever passing. The double bedroom also has the same great sea views, with a well-appointed ensuite bathroom, equipped with a shower cubicle, basin and toilet too. The twin bedroom is a good size and again, lovely views of Loch na Keal from the window. The tranquil experience of waking to loch views every morning of your stay is seriously hard to beat. Bed linen and towels are provided for your stay.
This Isle of Mull holiday cottage has been totally refurbished and the standard of finish is very high. It is a well-insulated, comfortable and relaxing place for a self-catering holiday. Wireless internet access is provided for guests’ use and there is parking on the drive, directly outside the property, alongside the gable end.
Head outdoors and guests will also find a lovely enclosed garden. Because the cottage is south facing, this area is a suntrap in summer and the surrounding mature trees create shelter from the sea breeze – the perfect spot to relax in. The nearest shop is a 15-minute drive away at the village of Salen, where there are also a few eateries and a bar. Tobermory, the island's main village, is a 25-minute drive from the cottage.
Kellan Mill Lodge is located within an area designated as a National Scenic Area. Loch na Keal is a fantastic habitat for wildlife. During the summer months, dolphins occasionally enter the loch, feeding on the abundant plankton and fish found here. White tailed eagles and a variety of divers are very regular sightings and the shoreline here is also home to otters.
There are some excellent walks in the area, directly from the door along the shore. Taking an evening stroll along the single track road to watch the sunset also comes highly recommended. The Isle of Ulva is close by for exploration too.
