Fionnphort Explore the area, things to do and more

With 300 miles of coastline, Mull has plenty of seascapes to soak up, but very few cottages that are right beside the beach. But at Tigh na Failte, the gorgeous sands and gently lapping waves are just beyond the garden gate, as this cottage sits in a superb position at the top of Fionnphort beach, promising panoramic views and the beach, quite literally, at the bottom of the garden. Topping up on vitamin sea comes guaranteed here!

The cottage sits in a nicely sized enclosed garden with parking just beyond the gate. Entering Tigh na Failte into a useful porch, you can abandon your sandy shoes or buckets and spades before heading into the house to relax after an afternoon on the beach.

Moving straight into the modern and well-equipped kitchen, guests will find every taste catered for, with high quality appliances, a full-size fridge freezer and a Morphy Richards coffee machine. From here, a hallway leads on to the rest of the accommodation, with the family bathroom and twin bedroom accessed from here, as well as the open-plan living and dining room.

This is a space you’ll want to spend time in, with gorgeous sea and beach views framing every moment in the cottage’s living space. Curl up in the comfy chair beside the bookcase and enjoy a page-turner beside the sights and sounds of the sea, whatever the weather; scan the seas for marine life with the spotting scope; or congregate around the cosy open fire, again with lovely beach views, as you pour a dram after an indulgent seafood dinner and reminisce about the day.

From the living area lie the cottage’s two double bedrooms. One cosy-sized double promises the chance to wake up to sea views each morning, while the larger master double offers the luxury of an en-suite shower room instead.

Tucked just above the beach in the island’s most south westerly village of Fionnphort, Tigh na Failte promises easy access to some of Mull’s very best beaches and boat trips. More of the stunning sands and pink granite rock formations so distinctive of the area await your discovery at Fidden and Knockvologan, with yet more hidden coves to discover onwards around the coast, should you be able to tear yourselves away from the beach at the bottom of the garden!

On a low tide, you can also explore the coastline heading north along the sands exposed by the tide right around to the charming settlement of fisherman’s cottages at Kintra, with the option to return along the lane and pass the Lazy Cow Café for a coffee on the way back. Or, for an easy-going stroll, venture along the well-surfaced path to Loch Pottie from the village and then turn to enjoy excellent views of the sunset as you retrace your steps.

With the beach, boat trips and options to eat out to boot all within the shortest of walks from Tigh na Failte, this is a cottage to come and truly relax, leave the car on the drive and soak up some of the finest coastline and islands in the Hebrides from one comfortable coastal base that leaves you looking forward to your next chance to return.
