Disembark the ferry and begin the short but scenic journey to Butterfly Cottage, a beautifully presented holiday cottage at Fishnish. Your journey hugs the coast, passing through woodland and along the bay having left the small village of Craignure behind. In only a few minutes, the scattering of cottages that make up Fishnish appear, with Butterfly Cottage set back from the road with views reaching over the bay.

There is ample parking for several cars at the cottage, which enjoys wrap-around gardens and a lovely patio with seating to the front to take in the ever-changing sea view. Entering the cottage up the ramp, there’s a wee porch to hang your coats before the bright hallway opens up, providing access to the rest of the property.

To the left lies the main living areas and to the right, the bedroom wing. A glazed door allows the light to flood through into the hallway, inviting you into the spacious living and dining room. Soothing grey and blue colours with check accents in this room tone beautifully with the view from the picture window, which rolls right across Fishnish Bay to the forest on the headland opposite.

Two perfectly positioned armchairs sit in the window, perfect for sea gazing by day and stargazing by night. Two comfy sofas surround the log burning fire at the heart of the room, promising a cosy place to gather to plan the day’s adventures or relax after a walk along the coast to Garmony.

Rounding the corner is the beautifully furnished dining area, with plush seating and a modern feel making mealtimes a treat. A convenient door leads directly from the dining space to the contemporary kitchen, which is well equipped with an electric oven and hob, full-size fridge-freezer, dishwasher and Tassimo coffee machine. A utility area leads off from the kitchen, with an external door leading into the rear garden too.

At the other end of Butterfly Cottage lie the two beautifully presented bedrooms. Wake up in the master bedroom to superb sea views, with the bed positioned perfectly in front of the huge window to take in the panorama. A chest of drawers, dressing table and built-in wardrobe provide stylish storage space and encourage you to make yourselves at home. Decorated in tones of heather and accented by mirror finishes, this space feels in tune with the landscape and yet has that sense of glamour too.

The family bathroom serves the master bedroom just across the hallway. A contemporary space, the bathroom benefits from a bath with an overhead shower, W.C. and basin, as well as a heated towel rail.

The twin bedroom is sumptuously furnished in tones of ochre and grey. The beds are welcomingly dressed with cushions and throws, promising a cosy night’s sleep all year round, while the windows present a view onto the rear garden, which is particularly charming with a bank of snowdrops in late winter. A chest of drawers and wardrobe offer plentiful storage, while the en-suite adds a touch of luxury, featuring a walk-in shower, W.C. and twin basins.

Butterfly Cottage is conveniently located for exploring the entire island during your stay. Step back in time at Duart Castle, just a short drive to the south, or experience the island's heritage in its rawest form with walks to the ruined castle and iron age fort at Aros.

Closer to home, the pebble coastline of Fishnish Bay awaits your exploration across the road to the front of the cottage, with scenic footpaths leading both through the woodland and around the coast. Exploring at a slower pace, you may even be fortunate enough to spot a seal or otter who call these waters home, or perhaps a sea eagle passing by overhead.
