Pennyghael Explore the area, things to do and more

Set on the scenic shore of Loch Scridain in the charming village of Pennyghael, Craig Beag promises a breath-taking location in the south of Mull. From this vantage point, the views across the sea loch to Mull’s highest mountain, Ben More, are superb. The local area is a wildlife haven, well known for otters in particular.

The cottage is as exceptional as the setting. A beautiful mix of larch cladding, white render and large windows tempt you in from the outside and the interior does not disappoint!

Entering the cottage you find a smart and stylish porch with storage space, which leads into the open-plan living kitchen area. The entire space has been beautifully designed, finished and furnished to the highest possible standards, giving guests a real sense of luxury.

In the entrance hall, full-height narrow windows capture a lovely slice of sky and views at both ends of the property. A reception table with welcome books and visitor information is to your right, helping you make the most of your time on Mull, along with a separate utility room with w.c. and basin.

Moving left through the cottage, the space unfurls and becomes more impressive as you explore further. Heading towards the high-spec designer kitchen with great sea views, you pass the dining table with excellent tableware and very comfortable seating, as well as the main living area. With its wall of glass windows that perfectly frame a view that pans round from the sea to the summit of Ben More, this is a space you’ll want to spend all day in!

High quality, comfortable sofas are provided along with a highly efficient wood burning stove to complement the underfloor heating. Warmed by an air source heat pump, the property has excellent green credentials. The double height ceilings lend the space a glorious sense of volume and abundant natural light enters from the roof Velux windows to the south of the property.

This main ground floor is divided over two levels, with steps leading up to a raised hall that is semi open-plan. This leads to both brilliantly appointed bedrooms, as well as providing access to the grounds behind the cottage, where you find a covered alcove with a set of table and chairs. This is a real suntrap, perfect for enjoying a glass or two of wine.

The twin bedroom is a beautifully proportioned room with lots of light and space. Top quality bedding and furnishings are provided and a fully tiled en-suite wet room with shower, basin and w.c. finishes the space.

The double bedroom is another generously sized room, with lovely sea views and lots of space to stow your belongings. The same high level of attention to detail throughout extends to the bedrooms. The en-suite for the double has a travertine stone tiled wet room with shower, basin and w.c, creating a spa-like, luxurious feel.

Owing to the high standard and split floor levels, Craig Beag is not suitable for children and is an adult only property. The house is, however, the perfect choice for discerning guests who want only the best quality finishes, combined with amazing views and facilities to ensure a most relaxing holiday.

Located on the Ross of Mull in the quaint, loch-front village of Pennyghael, there’s plenty to do in the local area, including shoreline walks and wildlife tours.

The cottage provides easy access to the ‘Scenic Route’ past Ben More and Loch na Keal, as well as to the dramatic Carsaig cliffs and the island’s south west corner, where boats depart for Iona, Staffa and the Treshnish Isles. So if you can tear yourself away from this terrific property, Craig Beag offers an excellent base from which to explore many of the island’s gems.
