Enjoying an elevated position above the village of Bunessan, Ceann na Fhuarain, which is Gaelic for Head of the Fountain, makes the most of stunning sea views over the bay at Loch na Lathaich. This purpose-built, single storey cottage celebrates its coastal location, with open plan living centred on the view and a nicely landscaped garden and patio for sunny days too.
Entering the cottage, the living and sleeping quarters have been usefully designed to promise peace and tranquillity, with both bedrooms and the family bathroom accessed from the entrance hall, and the spacious open-plan living area leading off to the right.
Guests will be instantly drawn to the lovely sea views over the bay, with the cottage's elevated position really maximising the view through the patio doors. Comfortable sofas are arranged to invite you to sit back and relax as you watch the tides change or scan the seas for signs of wildlife, with dolphins even occasional visitors to the bay and sea eagles sometimes spotted on the skerries, while the large television promises plentiful entertainment on dreicher days.
From here, the room flows into the dining kitchen, with sea views from the head of the table too. Meanwhile, the contemporary kitchen promises all you need to cook up a storm, whether you make the most of the catch of the day or slow cook a hearty Highland roast. The open-plan layout means the views are never far, and no guest feels far from the action.
Returning to the sleeping quarters, one double bedroom and one twin bedroom offer flexible accommodation for families or friends visiting the island together. Both rooms enjoy lots of natural light and storage so you can unpack and feel truly at home. A family bathroom off the hallway offers a WC, basin, shower cubicle and bath tub, perfect for a long soak after a day on the beach or hiking the coastline.
Located in the sleepy village of Bunessan with a strong heritage of crofting and fishing, guests will have the chance to enjoy lots of local flavours, whether enjoying the catch of the day fresh from the owner's fishing boat, or sampling the nearby local producers, from croft-grown vegetables to Highland beef.
15 minutes drive away in Fionnphort, family-run the Creel Seafood Bar at the top of the pier and vibrant pub the Keel Row beckons for hearty meals, and it's from this village that the CalMac passenger ferry to Iona departs, as well as boat trips to the island of Staffa. The Ross of Mull is celebrated for its shell-sand beaches and pink granite rock, with many for you to discover in the course of your stay, from the pretty cove at Kilvickeon, to the stunning shoreline at Uisken and the rockpools and skerries of Fidden and Knockvologan.
The island's south west peninsula offers plenty to delight keen walkers, wildlife enthusiasts and beach-goers and Ceann na Fhuarain is the perfect cottage to make your home base.
