Nestled between rolling hills and the sea beside a working island farm, Cathy’s Cottage promises character aplenty inside and out. This old stone cottage has been carefully renovated to combine all the charm of its heritage with the modern comforts that promise a relaxing stay. All in a setting where you can soak up some of Mull’s finest scenery from the door, with Glen Forsa, the towering mountain Ben Talaidh and the Sound of Mull each within reach.
Turning off the main road that traverses the island’s east coast, only a short 15-minute drive from the main ferry port in Craignure, you’ll meander up a private driveway to reach Cathy’s Cottage, which is set well back from the road in an enclosed lawned garden. There’s ample parking for two cars.
Entering the cottage via a step up over the threshold, a bright and welcoming hallway gives access to all rooms of the single-storey cottage. To the seaward side of the property lie the well-equipped dining kitchen and the living room.
Both rooms are dual aspect, offering lovely sea views whether you’re taking a seat for dinner or doing the washing up! The kitchen is well-equipped with modern appliances to ensure an easy stay should you choose to self-cater, although there is the chance to dine out locally at the Glenforsa Hotel as you watch the planes come and go.
Moving into the cosy living room, plush sofas and a relaxing armchair invite you to sit back and relax, whether taking in the views out to sea or across the farmland to the hills beyond. Perfect to whet your appetite as you plan the next day’s adventures, perhaps taking on an ascent of 762m Ben Talaidh, which stands at the end of Glen Forsa close by, or enjoying an easier-going amble along the network of paths near the shore.
The modern bathroom is well appointed with a shower, basin, WC and heated towel rail and conveniently is just across from the cottage’s two bedrooms, a spacious master double and a cosy twin room. Both are lovely, light-filled rooms with peaceful views to the surrounding hills and farmland, with ample storage to stow away belongings and truly settle in for your stay.
Cathy’s Cottage’s central location on the island makes it easy to explore just about everywhere, whether cutting across to the west coast and National Scenic Area of Loch na Keal, venturing down to the Ross of Mull to sail for Iona, or heading north to Tobermory, Mull’s vibrant harbour town, where yet more boat trips beckon to Staffa and the Treshnish Isles.
