A cottage with a view! Eala Bhan is a holiday house on the Isle of Mull offering high quality, self-catering accommodation for up to six people. Sitting close to the water's edge on Mull’s east coast at Glenforsa, the house has staggering, panoramic sea views looking up the Sound of Mull toward Ardnamurchan. Otters and seals make the shoreline their home, giving you brilliant opportunities to spot wildlife, too.
Entering the house, there is a porch and utility room and a separate cloakroom leading through to the spacious kitchen dining room. This is a fantastic space with plenty of work space, high quality appliances, a coffee machine and excellent sea views from the windows, making it a real pleasure to cook a hearty meal here. The dining table comfortably seats six people and is a great place to enjoy a sociable supper. The kitchen is well equipped for self-catering purposes and there are nice homely touches and quality furnishings throughout the property.
Double doors lead into what is perhaps the most impressive room of the house, the large living room with floor to ceiling windows that open up an exceptional view across a meadow and out to sea. Wooden beams add a nice detail to this room, and the comfortable seating and excellent views make this a great place to relax. There are a good range of books, a large television, wood burning stove and some nice original artwork on the walls. Sliding doors open to the decking area where there is outdoor seating. This is the perfect place to relax alfresco, enjoy the sunshine and perhaps a glass of wine, all with the backdrop and soundtrack of the sea.
A long corridor leads to the bedrooms. The first is a master double ensuite – a beautiful light room with a well-appointed ensuite bathroom, equipped with a shower, w.c and basin. A separate family bathroom with shower, bath, w.c. and basin adjoins another twin bedroom, with the final twin bedroom located at the end of the hall, with its own ensuite bathroom.
The house is a 15-minute drive from Craignure, where the ferry docks. Turning off the main road, a single track road leads to a courtyard shared with two other houses. There is a parking area for several cars, and the views from the front of the house are uninterrupted. There is a second entrance to the house too, which has a ramp leading to it, and is suitable for wheelchair access.
The shoreline close to Eala Bhan is a mix of sand and pebbles with rocky outcrops frequented by otters and seals. The grassland in front of the house doubles as the island’s only airstrip and small planes can be seen landing, on occasion, in front of the house. The airfield is only used by privately chartered small planes during working hours and it is rare there are more than a handful of planes landing in one day (often none).
Eala Bhan is part of the Glenforsa estate and a good track up the glen nearby offers great walking, mountain biking and wildlife watching opportunities. The village of Salen is only five minutes away in the car where there is a village shop, pub, restaurant and coffee shop. The pretty main town of Tobermory is further 20-minute drive from Salen where there are boat tours to catch and shops and cafes to explore. This is a great central location and ideal for those visiting Mull for the first time.
