Kilfinichen Estate Explore the area, things to do and more

The Dorran enjoys an idyllic setting on the Isle of Mull’s west coast, overlooking Kilfinichen Bay. The house is perfectly placed to allow guests to enjoy the ever-changing sea views, with the rising and falling tide and the weather rolling in from the Atlantic. Enjoy the possibility of spotting otters working the shoreline and keep your eyes to the skies, as white-tailed sea eagles are often seen locally.

After driving through Glen More to reach the cottage, you leave the single track road that follows the shore of Loch Scridain and a short track leads to The Dorran. This continues a short distance on to the neighbouring cottage, Fisherman's Bothy.

The Dorran is a detached, single storey property sitting within an enclosed garden. There is ample parking space for two cars. You enter the cottage into the kitchen dining area, which is well equipped and looks out over the rear garden. The dining table comfortably seats four and a large L-shaped hall leads to all other rooms.

The living room is very comfortably furnished with a large picture window framing the view over the bay. Perfect to settle down with a pair of binoculars and scan the seas, or to curl up with a guidebook and plot your island adventures. The natural light and finishing touches make this a relaxing living space where the hours fly by, with the atmospheric glow of the wood burning stove.

The double bedroom is a spacious room, which also has superb sea views over the bay. There is lots of storage space and a comfy king-sized bed. The twin bedroom is generously proportioned too and has peaceful garden views. Quality bed linen ensures a good night's sleep and there is plenty of space to settle in, stow belongings and feel truly at home.

The family bathroom is well-appointed with a bath with overhead shower, basin and w.c. From the hall, there is a front porch area with a second external door leading to the front garden where there is an outdoor dining table and chairs, lawn and excellent views.

The Dorran is an excellent choice for guests seeking a comfortable and homely cottage in a stunning setting on Mull’s west coast. You can launch kayaks and small boats from the shoreline, explore the fantastic walking opportunities in the area, or take to two wheels and see the surrounds by bike. Locally, the Tiroran Community Woodland offers an easy stroll with willow sculptures to spot, or the adventurous might take on the hike to the Burg peninsula and Fossil Tree, or round the coast to begin the ascent of Mull's only munro, Ben More, from Dhiseig.

A track from Tiroran nearby follows the coast of the Ardnameanach peninsula, also known as 'The Wilderness Peninsula'. The area has an abundance of wildlife, owing to the varying habitats on offer, and there are local guides who can take you out for the day to try and spot some the sea eagles that nest in the area, or otters around the coast.

For outdoor and wildlife enthusiasts, The Dorran delivers perfectly, with the comfort of a well-equipped, sea view cottage to come home to after each day's adventures. With just a handful of neighbouring cottages, the setting feels remote and peaceful, and yet there's the convenience of small village shop and a hearty meal at the pub in Pennyghael (15 minutes' drive) just across the water.
