Fishnish Explore the area, things to do and more

Experience the island's beautiful east coast with a stay at Daisy Cottage, which stands just across the road from Fishnish Bay, in an excellent location to soak up the island's renowned wildlife, including otters and white-tailed sea eagles. A short journey south takes you to the village of Craignure, where the ferry from Oban arrives and with some great cafes to patronise, while 30 minutes to the north you'll find the harbourfront of Tobermory, with a range of pubs and restaurants, gift shops and cafes, as well as boat trips departing for Staffa and the Treshnish Isles.

With a convenient location to explore the island from, Daisy Cottage makes for a really comfortable base for a family holiday on Mull. But, should you prefer to spend your time closer to home, there are also some wonderful walks to enjoy in the area, including circular paths through the woodland past Fishnish Bay, and along the coast from Fishnish to Garmony, which offers yet more excellent opportunities to spot interesting birdlife along the coast and estuary.

Arriving at Corry Meadows, the location of Daisy Cottage with the owners living in the adjoining property, there is a large parking area. A path leads round from the parking area to Daisy Cottage, which enjoys a dedicated outdoor space with patio and raised beds, fenced to provide privacy.

Stepping in the front door, a spacious and inviting open-plan living space welcomes you to your week on Mull. At the heart of a room, a traditional brick fireplace with a gas fire is framed by two towering feature windows, promising an inviting spot to relax with a book, mull over the day’s adventures or gather for a board game by the fire. Doors open directly from here out onto the private fenced garden patio, which is backed by dramatic rockfaces that lend a clue to the mountains that rise beyond in the distance.

The space is bathed in natural light, creating a lovely ambiance for mealtimes, and the open-plan, well-equipped kitchen means the chef of the group is never far from the action too.

Conveniently, there is a twin and double bedroom on the ground floor, both of which are served by a bathroom with w.c, basin and large walk-in shower. Moving upstairs, guests will find the master double, with stunning sea views to wake up to and the luxury of a private bathroom.

There are some wonderful walks from the doorstep of this holiday cottage. Just across the road from the cottage, there is a path along the pebble shoreline that makes its way around Fishnish Bay, to a headland where a network of forestry walks connect. This is a great area to scan the seas for the local seals, who often make an appearance, and for white-tailed eagles, which can be spotted in the area.

Closer to home at Corry Meadows, guests will also see aviaries that are home to three rescued owls, who were bred in captivity and are unable to be released into the wild: an eagle owl, tawny owl and barn owl. They came to Corry Meadows following the closure of the Wings Over Mull animal sanctuary.

By car, the village of Salen is 10 minutes’ journey north and Craignure lies 15 minutes to the south, where the ferry from Oban arrives. Both have a range of eateries, shopping, fuel and a public house. This is a very popular cottage with guests returning year on year to soak up the island's wildlife, with excellent access to explore all corners of Mull.
