Tucked beside a pretty pocket of mature woodland beside a working Hebridean farm, Puffin Cottage has a great location at Torloisk, in north west Mull. With the wonderfully unspoilt west coast of the island on the doorstep, which has a small population and some lovely stretches of coastline, as well as a brilliant black sand beach within walking distance, this really is the perfect setting to make the most of the great outdoors. There is lots of wildlife to seek out, too, including the red deer, otters and eagles that Mull is known for.
Entering the holiday cottage there is a porch with plenty of storage space. A hall with a staircase then leads to all ground floor rooms. To the left is a dining room with a large dining table and a pair of comfortable armchairs. This is a bright room with a semi-open plan layout. The wide doorway that leads through to the kitchen ensures the spaces feel connected, creating a sociable environment for cooking and dining.
The kitchen is very well equipped and has plenty of space for cooking. There is an adjoining utility area with an external door leading to the rear garden and patio - ideal for outdoor dining in the summer months beside a beautiful heather-filled rockery.
To the right of the ground floor hall are the living areas. The first sitting room has comfortable seating and a multi fuel stove, making it a great place to enjoy a book or just relax in. Double doors lead through to a sun lounge – another great space – with views from the windows that run right around the room. There is a television here with a selection of DVDs and more comfortable seating. A set of double doors can be opened to the rear patio and garden, making this room a lovely place to sit all year round. There is also a cloakroom with toilet and basin on the ground floor.
Upstairs a landing area leads to all bedrooms. The double bedroom has views over the deciduous woodland and has an ensuite with a shower, toilet and basin. There is one twin bedroom to the front and another to the rear of the house, both of which share the main bathroom on the landing. This bathroom benefits from a bath with shower, toilet and basin.
Situated in the little hamlet of Torloisk, the cottage is around 400 yards from the coast. The house is near the turning on the single track road that heads over the hills to Dervaig (10 minutes). This is the nearest village with a well-stocked shop and pub, The Bellachroy. The closest beach, Traigh na Cille, is within walking distance (one mile) and is an expanse of black sands with fantastic views towards the Treshnish Isles.
Heading north, the road follows the coast, climbing uphill as you leave Kilninian, before turning towards the white sands of Calgary Bay. To the south there are fantastic views and visits can be made to the Isle of Ulva from Ulva Ferry, or the road can be followed around the coast to the stunning Loch na Keal, with views of Ben More, the highest mountain on the island.
The area around the cottage is a mix of farmed pastures, hill country, rocky coasts and woodland - perfect for a variety of birds, deer and otters.
