Dervaig Explore the area, things to do and more

Torr a Mhannich (pronouned Torr a Vannich, meaning Field of the Monks) is a beautifully finished, spacious home. From its elevated position above the water, the house has fantastic views and otters are a regular sighting in the tidal, upper reaches of the loch. This homely and inviting holiday house is the sort of place you will want to return to time and again.

Torr a Mhannich is situated in the village of Dervaig in the north of Mull, which has a pub serving lunches and evening meals within walking distance and a good village shop, church and village hall. It also benefits from its proximity to one of the best beaches in this part of the island - Calgary beach – as well as some lesser known but equally beautiful stretches of coastline. The diverse habitats here include mature woodland, sea lochs, rivers and marshland, which of course mean that there is lots of wildlife to see.

There is ample parking for several cars at Torr a Mhannich and entering the property, the spacious hallway leads to the downstairs living areas. The main living area is open plan with the kitchen, dining area and sitting room all occupying a large L-shaped space with fantastic views over Loch Cuin. There are plenty of comfortable seats and sofas, television with Sky channels, books and local artwork. Enjoy a cup of coffee overlooking the loch and watch for wildlife in the mornings, or curl up on the sofa in the evenings with the wood burning stove alight. There is also a W.C. on the ground floor and a separate utility room with a washing machine and dryer – they could come in handy after a day of island adventures!

The living room leads through to the conservatory, which provides a separate sitting area with fabulous views overlooking the sea and hills beyond. Double doors open out to the patio area where there is an outside dining table and chairs. You can see some fantastic sunsets from this area of Mull and the room is perfectly orientated to be able to sit and watch the sun going down. We can’t think of many more relaxing ways to while away an evening…

Up the stairs from the hallway there are three large bedrooms, all with ensuite bathrooms and lovely views towards the sea. The first bedroom has a double bed and single bed (so could be used as a twin room, or for a family of three) and there are two further double bedrooms (one standard sized double and one king sized). Each of the rooms are beautifully furnished and have ample storage for belongings, as well as modern, well-appointed bathrooms for your comfort. Don’t miss the chance to take a dip in the cottage’s Jacuzzi bath!

Outside the property the garden has lawns and a patio area and there is a gate leading out to open countryside. Start your day with a morning walk along the coast of Loch Cuin and you’re all set for a holiday to remember.
