Tigh Bhan, which means white house, is located on the Isle of Mull’s east coast. The cottage has outstanding views over the Sound of Mull from every room, looking out over land, sea and sky that is home to sea eagles, otters and even dolphins!
This is a traditional stone built cottage that can sleep up to six people, with all rooms located on the ground floor. The house has a courtyard with parking to the rear and a large lawned garden to the front, which is enclosed.
Entering this holiday cottage, you will find a spacious hallway with plenty of room to store shoes and coats. All rooms lead off the hallway and look out towards the sea - ideal for magnificent sunsets in the evenings. The kitchen is extremely well-equipped for self-catering and there is a door leading directly to the front garden. It couldn’t be easier to enjoy dinner and drinks outdoors during the summer months here. In addition to the dining table, there is a smaller breakfast table from which you get superb views, making it a great place to relax and watch of wildlife.
The living room is light and very comfortably furnished and has wonderful views through double doors, which can be opened out to the garden area. This is a lovely room in which to unwind after a day’s adventures! The house is centrally heated and there is an electric stove in this room and in the kitchen, which promises to keep you cosy and warm.
The double bedroom closest to the living room is spacious and has a large picture window that perfectly frames the sea view. It’s a magical spot to wake up in every morning. The family bathroom has a bath with shower over, basin and w.c. Conveniently, there is also a second separate cloakroom with a toilet and basin. There are two further bedrooms – a twin and a second double – the latter of which has its own small shower unit. Bed linen and towels are provided for your stay.
There is superb walking available from the doorstep and this is a very good place for seeing Mull’s wildlife. There is a footpath that crosses the fields in front of the house, giving easy access to the shore and wide shingle beach. The fields are also in occasional use by light recreational aircraft, this being the island's airfield. Otters are regularly seen in the bay below Tigh Bhan and dolphins and porpoise have been seen too. A great variety of birds, including sea eagles, also frequent the area.
Heading inland, there is a fantastic walk up Glen Forsa, following a river along a gravel track, with the imposing mountain of Beinn Tallidh at the head off the glen. Within short walking distance of the cottage is the Glenforsa Hotel, which is licensed and serves lunches and evening meals. Salen is the closest village and has a range of amenities including a well-stocked village shop, hotel serving food, garage and cafe.
This is a very good central location for exploring most parts of Mull and the west coast and Loch na Keal can be accessed in around 15 minutes by car. Tigh Bhan is part of Callachally Farm, which extends to over 6,000 acres and includes some of the Isle of Mull’s most stunning landscapes.
