Kilninian Schoolhouse is located on the Isle of Mull’s west coast in a delightful rural setting, within walking distance of a great beach. This self-catering property occupies the Schoolhouse's south wing, and has its own parking, private entrance and gardens. So although the accommodation is not detached, there is privacy for guests. The views and setting are stunning, with a sweeping panorama over Loch Tuath and towards the islands of Ulva and Gometra and there are excellent walking opportunities from the doorstep.
Entering this handsome property, guests will find a spacious porch with plenty of storage space for walking boots and coats. A second door then opens to the ground floor hall and staircase. The ground floor accommodation consists of a double bedroom, twin bedroom and bathroom. Both bedrooms although relatively compact in size, are very nicely furnished, with quality bedding and furniture provided. The family bathroom is also located on the ground floor and has a bath with shower over, w.c. and basin.
The staircase leads to the main open-plan living, dining and kitchen area. This is a great space, with abundant natural light and superb views over the countryside and of Loch Tuath, owing to its elevated position on the upper floor. A cosy stove ensures you are warm and snug, no matter what the weather, and a superb range of books about the local area and games are provided to entertain. This is a great family space with everything you need for a self-catering break. The kitchen is well equipped and with a good range of utensils and cookware, and there is a dining table and chairs to accommodate four.
The outdoor space at Kilninian Schoolhouse is a real delight. The gardens are fenced and a patio area and picnic table allow you to enjoy alfresco dining while soaking up the views and listening to the birds.
The nearest beach at Traigh na Cille is a 10 minute walk away (half a mile), and offers a lovely broad expanse of grey sands backed by mature woodland. Calgary beach is twenty minutes by car, as is the village of Dervaig, where you can pick up provisions from the village shop, or enjoy a meal at the oldest Inn on the island, The Bellachroy.
Other eateries nearby include Am Birlinn and Croft 3, all offering excellent local produce, with seafood, venison and haggis often on the menu to sample. Calgary has a gallery and tearoom too for a great option for lunch. Tobermory, Mull’s main town, is 40 minutes away by car and is the focal point for the island community with a wide range of shops and eateries to enjoy.
