Things to Do
Peaceful, private and picturesque, the secluded valley setting of Glen Bellart will appeal to those wanting to escape it all. Breathe in the fresh air, soak up the lush views and spend your days walking through woodland, past lochs and along some of the island’s best beaches… total bliss. This area is excellent if you're keen to spot many of Mull's most treasured wildlife species, from eagles to owls and, if you follow the river down to Loch Cuin, a good chance of seals and otters too.
Glen Bellart is a valley with only a scattering of houses along the single-track road, which winds its way from Aros to Dervaig. There are plenty of opportunities for walks from the house onto open countryside with excellent hill views and along forestry trails. The north of Mull has lots of woodland walks that have been developed by the Forestry Commission, which are within easy reach of Achnacraig. The coastal areas around Dervaig, Langamull, Croig and Calgary are exceptionally beautiful, with some excellent stretches of coast to explore and white sandy beaches to discover, or for the bravest perhaps even a wild swim too.
Guests can visit the local heritage centre at The Old Byre with its cafe and visitor centre and enjoy the woodland walks, gallery and tea room at Calgary. Tobermory, the island's harbour capital, is around a 30-minute drive, with boat trips and wildlife tours heading out from the harbour as well as the arts centre, museum and theatre, plus plenty of gift shops and lots of restaurants to enjoy too.
