With far-reaching views over the sea to the Green Isles, Morvern hills and lofty Ben Hiant in the distance, Faoileann Ghlas promises a stunning natural setting from which to soak up some of the finest coastal scenery. One of just a small cluster of properties at Glenforsa, the house is sheltered by pretty woodland and stands within a good-sized mature garden, with plenty of parking and superb sea views.
The open-plan kitchen, dining and living area will be the heart of the home. The ever-changing sea vistas join you throughout, from your first coffee of the morning to a hearty feast gathered around the dining table at dusk. Excellently appointed, the sociable kitchen promises all the home conveniences to self-cater, while family and friends join you at the island, spill out onto the patio in the garden, or kick back and relax on the plush sofas gathered around the wood-burning stove.
There’s a convenient utility room accessed from the kitchen too, with a further sink, washing machine and dryer, and another door to the garden.
Also on the ground floor are two of the property’s three beautifully-appointed bedrooms, both with tranquil garden views and ample built-in wardrobes. The king-sized double also enjoys the luxury of an en-suite shower room, while the twin bedroom is conveniently served by the spacious family bathroom next door, complete with large shower, bath, WC and basin.
Venturing upstairs, Faoileann Ghlas’s stunning situation gazing north up the Sound of Mull comes into its own, with a large living area taking in the panorama with triple aspect windows and a stunning sea view balcony for the long summer evenings. The perfect spot to enjoy a nightcap at sunset, catch a glimpse of a small aircraft coming in to land at the airfield, or simply to scan the seas and skies for the abundant wildlife that call the island and its waters home.
This is a room you’ll want to spend lots of time whatever the weather, curled up with one of the many page-turners on the well-stocked bookshelf, charting the course of your next adventure, or with camera-in-hand, capturing the rolling clouds and dancing light over the water.
The master suite also occupies the first floor. A beautiful room with a vaulted ceiling and chandelier at its centre, expect to find serenity and luxury in equal measure. Elegantly furnished with his-and-hers occasional chairs, a dressing table and king-sized bed, the master is also served by an en-suite shower room.
Throughout the home, beautiful artworks decorate the walls and complete the soft and homely choice of wallpapers and soft furnishings that lend this homestay such a welcoming feel. The same attention to detail stretches to the garden too, with mature borders brimming with hydrangeas in bloom in season, a lovely sea view patio and alfresco dining area and pockets of mature woodland ensuring the garden is always busy with birdsong.
Conveniently located on the island’s east coast, Faoileann Ghlas offers a central location, so wherever you wish to explore on Mull, you are never far. There’s a hotel, which serves meals, within walking distance, where you can dine with a view and spot planes coming in to land, as well as a great farm shop café just along the road.
Take your pick of stunning coastal walks as you scan the seas for seals on the skerries and keep downwind of otters working the tides, or follow the River Forsa upstream to encounter stunning waterfalls and pools.
Heading inland, a walk deep into the glen from which the settlement takes its name rewards with impressive mountain views to Ben Talaidh along a circular loop that returns along the river, with a great chance of seeing red deer, birds of prey and, of course, the resident Highland cows, as you go.
Whether you want to tour all corners of Mull or hike from the door during your stay, Faoileann Ghlas opens the door to a luxurious homestay from which to experience the very best of Mull, if you can pull yourselves away from the sea view!
