The Window Seat is aptly named. A large window frames the stunning view out to Loch Don; a tidal estuary, known for its prolific bird life. This south eastern corner of the island is characterised by its mountainous backdrop, winding coastline and small population. A really rugged and beautiful corner of Mull with sweeping moorlands, ancient woodlands, sea lochs and a rocky coastline to explore. Watch out for red deer on the flats around Lochdon and Grasspoint; for seals on the outlying skerries, dotted around the coast; or for hen harriers soaring above.

Things to Do
There are some wonderful walking routes available in this area. Guests staying in The Window Seat can walk the 3 miles to Grasspoint from the doorstep along the single track road which ends at the coast with a stunning panoramic view. The coastline of Loch Don itself can also be navigated and a pair of binoculars should be packed, to get a closer look at the wildlife you will undoubtedly see. Further afield, Croggan and Lochbuie are well worth a visit for the stunning scenery you will see on the way and the fabulous walks along the coastline available from either the road end at Croggan, or the sweeping bay at Lochbuie. Mountaineers will be spoilt for choice and cyclists will be in their element too.
Duart Castle, home of the Maclean family, is well worth a visit with its tearoom and guided tours, just a short drive from the hamlet of Lochdon. The village of Craignure has a Spar shop for essentials, a great local pub (the Craignure Inn) selling lunches and evening meals, a small children's play park and village hall and there is a swimming pool and spa facilities at the Isle of Mull hotel. A small 9 hole golf course is open to non-members on the edge of the village with stunning views!
Tobermory, the main town on Mull, can be reached in around 45 minutes and it's a similar driving time in the opposite direction to Fionnphort, where boats depart to Iona, Staffa and the Treshinish islands.
