Things to Do
If you are looking for mountainous scenery and coastal walks, easy access to the sea and little more to do than enjoy your surroundings, read a book, or walk the dog, then Lochbuie is an excellent place for a holiday on Mull. The shores of the loch are a haven for wildlife, with birds big and small swooping past, fallow deer grazing nearby and otters not far away either.
Close by are the ruins of Moy Castle, set on the edge of some mature woodland. Further round the bay you reach the foot of Ben Buie, which is the beautiful mountain that dominates the scenery at Lochbuie. If you bring your bike, you can cycle the stunning tracks and roads around Lochbuie, to the freshwater Loch Uisg or further on to Croggan. Otters are often spotted on the shore of nearby Loch Spelve and the wildlife here is fantastic. Red and fallow deer, excellent birdlife, otters and seals can all be spotted in the area.
The closest village is Craignure, which has a Spar shop, coffee shop, pub and hotel. There is a swimming pool and spa at the hotel, open to non-residents, and Duart Castle is just outside the village and well worth a tour. Tobermory, the island's capital, takes an hour and a half to reach, but the scenery on the way is picturesque, and you can spend the day exploring the craft shops and cafes, or take a boat trip out to one of the neighbouring islands.
