Things to Do
Only 10 minutes’ drive from the island’s main ferry terminal, Rowan Lea awaits amid woodland and countryside, with lovely coastal views looking eastwards. The perfect location for those seeking to escape it all in nature, without compromising on easy access to amenities, restaurants and the ferry.
From the cottage, there is a network of forestry tracks to discover on foot for miles. Many venture uphill, passing in and out of stands of trees mixed with felled areas, which offer open views back over to the Sound of Mull as you climb. One track in particular rewards you for your efforts on the ascent with a beautiful and little-visited waterfall at the end.
Close by, more excellent walking opportunities await to the south with a circular route in the Scallastle Forest, which also leads up to a stunning waterfall, or to the north along Glen Forsa and returning along the river. For those keen to take on a bigger climb, the dramatic ridges of Dun da Ghaoithe (766m) or the towering slopes of Ben Talaidh (762m) will prove hard to resist!
On lower ground, the Craignure Golf Course promises a challenging nine holes with sea views over Scallastle Bay. This corner of Mull is well-known for wildlife, with white-tailed sea eagles, otters, seals and red deer all seen in the local area.
With Craignure around a 10-minute drive to the south and Salen a similar distance to the north, guests are spoiled for choice with access to amenities. Both villages offer a range of cafes, filling station and garage, with options for evening meals in the Salen Hotel or Craignure Inn too.
The island’s harbour town of Tobermory lies 30 minutes to the north, where yet more attractions await, from the museum to the distillery and boat trips to bistros!
