Things to Do
You don't really need to plan a great deal while staying somewhere like Heather Brae. The house is so comfortable and inviting, that is is difficult to leave the fabulous views behind to make time for exploration! However, you can make the short stroll into the village (half a mile), either to walk around the head of Loch Cuin, pick up some provisions from the village shop, or to have lunch at the oldest inn on the island.
Further afield the coastline of north Mull beckons, with its inlets, rocky headlands, sweeping beaches, woodland and terraced hills. The natural grasslands and river that lie in view from Heather Brae make for a wonderful habitat for a variety of birds including some of the raptors, owls and waders that the island provides a haven for. There is a heritage centre on the outskirts of the village too for some historical information about the island; a tearoom and gallery on the way to Calgary beach (a 15 minute drive from the house) and a handful of great restaurants in the area to try too.
Tobermory, the islands' main town, is a 20 minute drive from Heather Brae where there is a good range of shops and places to eat, as well as the distillery, museum, arts centre and golf course.
