Things to Do
The house sits on the edge of the bay of Loch na Lathaich, a fifteen minute walk from the village of Bunessan, which has a village shop, post office and pub (the Bunessan Inn). To the west, Fionnphort, which can be reached in around a fifteen minute drive, also has a shop, pub (the Keel Row), gallery and ferry port, where boats depart to Iona. Ninth Wave restaurant is of note too, on the outskirts of Fionnphort, for its award winning menu - a great place for an evening meal.
The area has a rich history and guests can explore the Ross of Mull Historical Centre in Bunessan, or pick up a walking book and head out to one of the ruined villages around the coastline, such as the settlement at Shiaba beyond Scoor. The Isle of Iona is of historical interest too with its imposing Abbey and nunnery, and boat tours also take holidaymakers out to the Treshnish Isles and Staffa. You might see some marine life (dolphins, porpoises or basking sharks) if you are lucky and seabirds too, including puffins, if you come at the right time of year.
The meandering coastline around the Ross of Mull is dotted with lovely beaches to explore - Ardalanish, Kilvickeon and Knockvologan are all fabulous, but there are some little sandy bays which are harder to reach too and all the more rewarding as a result. Pack a picnic, take your binoculars and get exploring! Don't forget to fit in a few day trips further afield, up towards the impressive Gribun cliffs and Loch na Keal, or up to the island capital of Tobermory in the north of the island.
